About
Located on the roof of the hospital, the therapeutic garden is a serene space that provides a peaceful atmosphere for the patients.
Gardening therapy utilizes nature as a tool for rehabilitation and recovery. Nurturing plants enables patients to improve their function as well as experience a sense of responsibility and control. In many ways, the growth stages of plants serve as a metaphor for different periods of a person’s life, helping them find acceptance and cope with challenges.
Reuth TLV’s therapeutic garden includes indoor and outdoor spaces, areas for group and individual therapy, and a greenhouse. It contains a wide variety of plants including spices, succulents, flowers, trees, and vegetables so that every patient can find something of interest.
Patients
Patients from all inpatient departments and outpatient clinics benefit from the garden.
Treatments
- Individual gardening therapy focuses on achieving individual rehabilitation goals of improving motor and cognitive skills such as strength, range of motion, memory, attention, concentration, action sequences, and emotional wellbeing.
- Group gardening therapy brings together patients who share medical conditions or similar social backgrounds (i.e. geriatric patients, patients in day rehabilitation, etc.). In addition to improving motor and cognitive skills, group therapy offers the added value of emotional support from others in similar situations.
- Gardening therapy for patients on ventilators takes place in the respiratory rehabilitation departments and primarily entails sensory stimulation.
Research and academic activity
Reuth TLV is recognized as a clinical training site for students in gardening therapy.
Staff
Reuth TLV’s therapeutic garden is part of the occupational therapy unit. It is staffed by three therapists and additional gardening therapy students.
